Kazimierz Banasik, professor emeritus, was teaching and researching at Warsaw University of Life Sciences - SGGW ( He taught hydrology, erosion and sedimentation, and flood defences at the Department of Water Engineering in the Faculty for Civil and Environmental Engineering. He also served as a visiting Associate Professor at the Department of Agricultural Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (, USA.

Having obtained a Ph.D. in Hydrology and Sedimentation from Warsaw Agricultural University in 1983, he became a professor in 2002 and was Dean of his Faculty at Warsaw University of Life Sciences - SGGW between 2002 and 2008. Then he was the university coordinator for international research projects (2008-2016) and Vice Rector for Development (2016-2020).

He served as a Chairman of the Association of Polish Hydrologists – SHP (2013-2019) and as Vice President of the International Commission on Continental Erosion of IAHS (2011-2019). He has been currently chairing the Committee of Environmental Engineering of Polish Academy of Sciences.

His research activity has dealt with hydrology of small catchments, sediment graph prediction and reservoir sedimentation. He has been the recipient of several research grants and fellowships. Professor Banasik has also received several honors and awards in recognition of his achievements including the Gold medal for long-term services for his country, Medal of the Commission of National Education and the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
